liz kauffman paintingsLiz, currently an artist in Northern Vermont, was born in Allentown PA, lived her childhood in Northeastern Ohio and received a B.A. in Fine Arts from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. In 2005 Liz received an artist residency from the Vermont Studio Center located in Johnson, Vermont. After a month of intensive painting, Liz stayed at the Vermont Studio Center and has been working as a resident staff artist for the past three years. In addition to working at the studio center Liz has been local teaching children’s art classes for the past two years. She offers private classes as well as teaches painting and drawing classes at the Helen Day Art Center.

The source of inspiration for Liz’s artwork comes from many places - traveling, nature, people, architecture, color... most everything surrounding her. She seeks to find the hidden beauties in the mundane.

Liz's paintings explore harmony and tension in color and form. Intrigued by linear tension found in architecture and nature, she analyzes this topic through oil paintings, drawings and sculpture. She translates ambient spaces, rich in line and color, to abstraction. This vocabulary remains the source of her energy to create vibrant, moving paintings.
